By connecting the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port to Thunderbolt 2, you'll connect a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port - such as an external hard drive or Thunderbolt dock - to any Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your MacBook Pro.
